12 Weeks Of Change

This blog is dedicated to showing my progress over the course of 12 weeks. Starting january 31, 2012 i will be starting the body building.com competition.

Saturday AM workout

Got up early this morning and went to the gym. Working out in the morning is one of my favorite parts of each day and it keeps your metabolism rev’d throughout the rest of the day to burn some extra calories.

I lifted chest and did 20 minutes of cardio (HIIT).

Got home and had eggs and a protein shake. Feeling great.

Day 5.

Holy crap.

It felt so great to finally get back in the gym.

Great biceps workout tonight.

Surprise…

Just received an email saying that my gym is opening today instead of next Tuesday. I cannot tell you how excited I am to lift things up and put them down.

Tonights Dinner.
Day 3. My gym still isn’t open so I am having to work out in the park near my apartment in the mornings then do abs when I get home from work at night. So the exercise portion of my routine is in a serious rut but I came into this knowing that would happen due to my gym closing until the 7th.
My diet however is great. I have been keeping track of everything I eat for the first time. All the pictures I have posted are of my dinners each night that I cook.
Here is a what my standard day looks like…
Meal 1: Protein shake + 2 eggs (one whole one white) with shredded chicken
Meal 2: Steal cut oatmeal with blueberries
Meal 3: Apple + Banana
Meal 4: Chicken breast
Meal 5: Peanut butter sandwich
Meal 6: Varies (see pictures) Chicken/salmon/protein and veggies

So today is day #3 and I thought I would show you some of the meals I have been making for dinner. This one is sautéed spinach with garlic and a chicken breast.

So before I go out I want to share this with everyone. I have watched this video every morning for the past month. It is the best motivational speech I have heard. There is also another version of this video put to a football player working out but they cut out some of the speech and I enjoy the entire thing. Stay motivated. The only thing holding you back from success is yourself.

Final weekend before it begins…

On Monday I begin the first day of the competition. My gym still isn’t opening until the 7th of February so I already face a major setback. In addition, my roommate who is one of my best friends, told me that I have no chance in hell to win this thing. This in turn makes me want to win 1,000,000 times more to prove him wrong.

So, on my last weekend night before I start, I am going out for a few drinks. Going to stick only to vodka waters to keep calories at a minimum. During the course of my contest there will be 3 times that I drink.

  1. Next weekend when my GMEN play the Patriots in the Super Bowl
  2. St. Patricks Day (very big here in Hoboken, NJ)
  3. March 23-26 when I go to Miami for the weekend for Ultra Music Festival

And that will be it. I know I will find it hard to go out with my friends on the weekends and only drink water at the bars but it is something I will have to do if I want to be committed to winning.

fightingthedoubt asked: Hey Blake. Congratulations on getting started! I too just began a 12 week program off bodybuildingdotcom and I was wondering if you are doing Kris Gethin's program? Keep on posting blogs 'cuz I'm stoked to hear about your progress and journey. Give it hard!

Thanks man you too! I haven’t started yet (my old gym membership expired and my new gym that was supposed to open is pushed back to Feb 7 so I am holding out on starting until Jan 31). I’m leaning towards not using one of their trainers programs and doing my own thing/collaborating with one of my friends who is a personal trainer. How are you doing so far?
